Nydri Waterfalls Lefkas Greece

Discover striking waterfalls and swim in crystal clear waters as you take a hike through beautiful Greek countryside on the eastern coast of Lefkas. Starting in Nydri, a pretty seaside town, follow the yellow signs from the main street in the town centre as you begin your trip to the falls. Passing through citrus orchards and olive groves along the way, the shady walk is a welcome break from the sun during hot Greek summers.

The hike is steep in places, so leave your flip flops at the hotel in favour of good sturdy shoes. Walking alongside the river, where olive tree roots twist into the cool waters, the footpath eventually takes you right up to Nydri Waterfall.

The waterfall itself is small, with the clear, refreshing pool below being the biggest attraction. During the summer, you'll see plenty of locals taking a dip to cool off in the heat, so remember to take your bathing suit and join in.

As you walk down to the pool, tread carefully - the path can be slippy near the water. When you've finished your dip, dry off and prepare for the hike back to Nydri.

If you get tired along the way, stop off in the village of Rachi where there's a lovely taverna serving cool refreshments throughout the day. There's also a cafe at the beginning of the trail. After your walk, spend some time exploring Nydri. Go boat spotting in the harbour, or browse the exhibits in the town museum before heading back to your hotel.
